The season starts tomorrow in Baltimore and the Yankees will probably be rained out. Why do they persist in starting the season in rainy East Coast cities? They could be playing on the West Coast or in any number of domed stadiums? This annoys me and leads to unnecessary double headers in the heat of the summer. In any event I am quite excited for the season. I don't have any tickets yet but hopefully Dr. Nathan will come through with a few pairs.
The team looks pretty good assuming the starting pitchers don't get hurt as usual and the bridge to Mariano is not as fragile as it has been in recent years. I am also concerned about the center field situation and about Matsui's health. Other than that I think they will probably pile on the runs and win many 9-7 games.
This year the focus will be on the team and not on A-rod. I hope. The less I see of his strangely purple lips and his hitting into double plays with the game on the line the better. I think it will be a positive season and unlike Curt Schilling I don't think the Red Sawx will win 105 games. I don't think anyone in the division will win a hundred games since they have to play each other so often and the only real weak link is the Orioles.
I will be at my casa watching tomorrow afternoon and the long winter will finally be over.
